The European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy (EAFP) Annual Conference 2026, held in Tartu, Estonia from 4 to 6 June 2026, centered on the theme ‘Agile Pharmacy Curricula: Ensuring a Future–Proof Pharmacy Profession.’ The conference brought together pharmacy educators, researchers, students, and professional stakeholders from across Europe to explore how pharmacy education can adapt to rapid technological advances, evolving healthcare needs, and sustainability challenges. Through a combination of keynote lectures, interactive workshops, and collaborative discussions, delegates examined innovative approaches to curriculum design that equip future pharmacists with the competencies required for an increasingly digital and patient-centered healthcare environment.
A major highlight of the programme was its strong emphasis on digital transformation and artificial intelligence in pharmacy education. Sessions explored how Artificial Intelligence is reshaping teaching, learning, and professional practice, including discussions on curriculum agility, digital competencies, and practical strategies for integrating AI into pharmacy programmes. Participants also engaged in workshops on person-centered medicine reviews, teaching professional values, and competency-based curriculum development, while oral and poster presentations showcased educational innovations from institutions across Europe. These presentations addressed topics such as student wellbeing, inclusive education, immersive learning, interprofessional education, and curriculum reform in response to evolving European regulatory requirements.
Beyond the academic programme, the conference promoted extensive collaboration through a Stakeholders’ Forum featuring representatives from leading European and international pharmacy organizations, including International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), European Pharmaceutical Students Association (EPSA), Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU), European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP), and European Industrial Pharmacists Group (EIPG). Discussions focused on co-creating agile pharmacy curricula that align educational outcomes with workforce needs and future healthcare priorities. Networking opportunities, including a welcome reception at the University of Tartu History Museum and a conference dinner in the Peipsiveere Nature Reserve, complemented the scientific sessions, while awards for the best oral and poster presentations recognized excellence in educational research. During the conference, delegates also took time to honour the memory of Professor Giuseppe Ronsisvalle and Professor Jorge Manzanares, both of whom served with distinction on the EAFP Executive Committee. Their longstanding dedication and invaluable contributions to the Association and to pharmacy education were warmly remembered and acknowledged by colleagues, reflecting the lasting impact of their commitment and leadership. The conference reinforced EAFP’s commitment to advancing innovative, sustainable and future-ready pharmacy education across Europe.
